Don't Be Mislead by "Top Paying Keyword" Lists
What are the highest paying keywords? I hear this question all the time. What you should be asking is what keywords have the highest CTR and maximum coverage for the highest payout?
Just because the highest paying keyword is $50, doesn't mean you will even come close to the 40% payout of $20 per click.
You have to consider more than one Adword [ppc] advertiser is paying for this term and subsequently will be placed on your site. Even if you managed to snag the top paying advertiser each time, more than one ad will be displayed lowering your top keyword payout.
What are the second, third, tenth place ad positions paying? If you don't know this then you may be throwing your time and money away targeting the wrong keywords.
Essentially, you need real-time bid estimate data for the top 8 - 10 ads for any particular keyword.
When considering keywords, the value from the top can drop drastically to the second and even third place advertisement. Chances are, you are targeting terms you "think" are worth $20, $30, $40 etc when in fact the payout can be as little as little as 20 cents or less.
